Founders of Machairas Monastery

Venerable Neophytos, Ignatios, Prokopios and Neilos, founders of the Monastery of Machairas in Cyprus.

These venerable fathers of the twelfth century founded the monastery of the Theotokos of Machairas in the mountains of Cyprus, around an icon of the Mother of God found there according to tradition. Neilos, the third of the founders, was later made Bishop of Tamassos. They are honoured as patrons of one of the great monasteries of Cyprus.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Founders of Machairas Monastery is commemorated on December 13. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 26 of the civil calendar.
