Holy Virgin Martyr Lucy of Syracuse.
The holy virgin martyr Lucy was a Christian of Syracuse in Sicily who suffered under the persecution of Diocletian at the beginning of the fourth century. Having vowed her virginity to Christ and given her dowry to the poor, she was denounced by her suitor and brought before the governor.
Tradition relates that no force could move her from where she stood, and that she was finally slain by the sword. She is honoured throughout East and West.

On the New Calendar, Lucy of Syracuse is commemorated on December 13. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 26 of the civil calendar.
