Gabriel of Pec

Hieromartyr Gabriel, Patriarch of Pec and Archbishop of Serbia.

The hieromartyr Gabriel was Patriarch of the Serbs at Pec in the seventeenth century. Accused before the Ottoman authorities on his return from Russia, he refused to embrace Islam and was hanged at Bursa in 1659.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Gabriel of Pec is commemorated on December 13. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 26 of the civil calendar.
