  Thyrsos and companions

  Martyr, Θύρσος

  The holy martyrs Thyrsos, Leucius, and Callinicus suffered for Christ in Asia Minor in the third century, during the Roman persecutions. Refusing to offer sacrifice to the idols, they endured torments with steadfast faith and were put to death, their endurance drawing others to confess Christ.

• Philemon, Apollonius and Arrian

  Martyr, Φιλήμων, Απολλώνιος και Αρριανός

  These holy martyrs suffered at Antinoe in Egypt under Diocletian. Philemon, a pagan flute-player, was converted when he took the place of the Christian Apollonius before the governor Arrian; both were put to death. Tradition relates that Arrian himself later believed and was martyred together with four of his bodyguards, the Protectors.
