  Eleutherios

  Hierarch, Ελευθέριος

  The holy hieromartyr Eleutherios was a bishop of the early Church, raised in piety by his mother Anthia and consecrated to the episcopate while still young. According to tradition he suffered in the persecutions of the second century: brought before the emperor, he refused to deny Christ, endured many torments unharmed, and was finally put to death, his mother Anthia being slain beside him.

• Anthia the Martyr

  Holy Woman, Ανθία

  The holy martyr Anthia was the mother of the hieromartyr Eleutherios, whom she raised in the faith from childhood. When her son was put to death, she embraced his body and was herself beheaded, sharing his crown of martyrdom.

• Susanna the Deaconess

  Holy Woman, Σωσάννα η Οσιομάρτυς

  The venerable martyr Susanna was the daughter of a pagan priest in Palestine who came to faith in Christ. Tradition relates that she disguised herself as a man and entered a monastery, where she was falsely accused; when her innocence was revealed she was made a deaconess at Eleutheropolis.

• Paul of Latros

  Venerable, Παύλος ο εν Λάτρω

  Venerable Paul was born in Bithynia in the tenth century and became a monk on Mount Latros near Miletus, living in caves and on the summit of the mountain in great austerity. Many disciples gathered around him, and he was consulted by emperors. He reposed in peace in 955.

• Bacchus the New

  Martyr, Βάκχος ο Νέος

  The holy martyr Bacchus was born in Palestine in the eighth century to a father who had abandoned the Christian faith. Baptised and made a monk at the Lavra of St. Sabas, he was denounced as an apostate from Islam and beheaded in Jerusalem.

• Stephen of Sourozh

  Hierarch, Στέφανος Σουρόζης

  Stephen was Archbishop of Sourozh in Crimea in the eighth century. He confessed the veneration of the holy icons against the iconoclast emperors, suffered imprisonment and exile, and returned to his see, where he reposed in peace.

• Eleutherios the Cubicularius

  Martyr, Ελευθέριος ο Κουβικουλάριος

  The holy martyr Eleutherios was a chamberlain of the imperial court. Tradition relates that he was denounced as a Christian by a servant, refused to deny Christ, and was beheaded.
