Anthia the Martyr

Holy Martyr Anthia, mother of the Hieromartyr Eleutherios.

The holy martyr Anthia was the mother of the hieromartyr Eleutherios, whom she raised in the faith from childhood. When her son was put to death, she embraced his body and was herself beheaded, sharing his crown of martyrdom.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Anthia the Martyr is commemorated on December 15. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 28 of the civil calendar.
