Bacchus the New

Holy Martyr Bacchus the New of Palestine.

The holy martyr Bacchus was born in Palestine in the eighth century to a father who had abandoned the Christian faith. Baptised and made a monk at the Lavra of St. Sabas, he was denounced as an apostate from Islam and beheaded in Jerusalem.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Bacchus the New is commemorated on December 15. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 28 of the civil calendar.
