  Leo the Great

  Hierarch, Λέων ο Μέγας

  St. Leo the Great was Pope of Rome in the fifth century, one of the great fathers of the undivided Church. His celebrated Tome, read at the Fourth Ecumenical Council at Chalcedon in 451, confessed with clarity that Christ is one Person in two natures, true God and true man, and the fathers of the council received it as the voice of Peter.

• Leo and Paregorios of Patara

  Martyr, Λέων και Παρηγόριος

  Sts. Leo and Paregorios were close friends in Patara of Lycia. Paregorios was arrested first and martyred after many tortures. Leo, weeping at the place of his friend's death, was moved to smash the lamps of a pagan temple and openly confess Christ.

• Agapitos of Synnada

  Hierarch, Αγαπητός Συνάου

  St. Agapitos was born in Cappadocia and became a monk in his youth, famed for his asceticism and his miracles. Forced into military service under Licinius, he was wounded for his faith, then released and ordained; the Emperor Constantine later made him Bishop of Synnada.

  Martyr, Αγρίππας, Βικτωρίνος, Δωρόθεος και Θεόδουλος

  Sts. Agrippas, Victorinos, Dorotheos and Theodoulos confessed Christ and were put to death for the faith. The Synaxaria record only the fact of their martyrdom.

• Cosmas of Yakhrom

  Venerable, Κοσμάς του Γιαχρόμ

  St. Cosmas was the servant of a boyar whom he nursed through a long illness. Tradition relates that at the river Yakhrom an icon of the Dormition of the Theotokos appeared to him and healed his master.
