  Simon the Zealot

  Apostle, Σίμων ο Ζηλωτής

  The Holy Apostle Simon the Zealot was one of the Twelve chosen by the Lord. The Gospels record his name among the Apostles, and his title of Zealot bespeaks his burning devotion. After Pentecost he went forth like the others to preach the Gospel, and tradition holds that he carried the good news to distant lands and completed his course as a martyr.

  Alphaeus, Philadelphus and Cyprinus were brothers, sons of a nobleman of southern Italy, who were arrested for their faith in the third century and taken through several cities before reaching Leontini in Sicily.

• Hesychios of Antioch

  Hesychios was a high-ranking official in Antioch in the reign of Maximian Galerius. When Christians were ordered to leave the imperial service, he willingly laid aside his rank, and when he refused to sacrifice he was thrown into the river Orontes with a millstone about his neck.
