  Theodotus of Ancyra

  Martyr, Θεόδοτος

  The Holy Martyr Theodotus of Ancyra suffered under the persecution of Diocletian at the beginning of the fourth century. An innkeeper by trade, he secretly aided the persecuted Christians of the city; when seven holy virgins of Ancyra were put to death for their faith, tradition tells that Theodotus recovered their bodies and gave them burial, though it was forbidden on pain of death. For this he was seized, tortured, and beheaded.

• Martyrs of Lampsacus: Peter, Dionysios, Andrew, Paul and Christina

  Martyr, Πέτρος, Διονύσιος, Ανδρέας, Παύλος και Χριστίνα

  Peter, a young Christian of Lampsacus on the Hellespont, refused to sacrifice to Aphrodite and was tortured and killed under the Emperor Decius. Dionysios, Andrew and Paul were arrested with him, and the virgin Christina, who encouraged them, was also martyred.

• Seven Virgin Martyrs of Ancyra

  Holy Woman, Τεκούσα, Αλεξανδρία, Κλαυδία, Φαεινή, Ευφρασία, Ματρώνα και Ιουλία

  Tekousa, Alexandra, Claudia, Phaine, Euphrasia, Matrona and Julia were elderly Christian virgins of Ancyra in Galatia. In the persecution of Diocletian they were paraded through the city and drowned in a lake with stones about their necks.

• Stephen of Constantinople

  Hierarch, Στέφανος Κωνσταντινουπόλεως

  Stephen was the son of the Emperor Basil I and the brother of Leo VI. Educated by Patriarch Photios, he was made Patriarch of Constantinople in 886 while still very young.

• Theodore, Pope of Rome

  Hierarch, Θεόδωρος Πάπας Ρώμης

  Theodore was born in Jerusalem of Greek parents and became Pope of Rome in 642. He firmly opposed the Monothelite heresy supported by Constantinople and prepared the way for the Lateran Council under his successor Saint Martin.

• Potamon of Heraclea

  Hierarch, Ποταμών Ηρακλείας

  Potamon was bishop of Heraclea in Egypt and suffered in the persecution of Maximian, losing an eye for his confession. He took part in the Council of Nicaea and later defended Saint Athanasios against the Arians.

• David and Tarichan of Georgia

  Martyr, Δαβίδ και Ταριχάνης

  David and Tarichan were young brothers of a noble Georgian family in the seventh century whose uncle, having embraced Islam, sought to force them to follow him and to seize their inheritance. When they refused to abandon Christ, he killed them.
