Righteous Stephen of Constantinople, founder of a hospice for the aged.

St. Stephen was a courtier under the Emperor Maurice who used his wealth to found a hospice for the elderly in Constantinople, devoting himself to the care of strangers and the poor.
He reposed in peace in the early seventh century.
May 18
Stephen was the son of the Emperor Basil I and the brother of Leo VI. Educated by Patriarch Photios, he was made Patriarch of Constantinople in 886 while still very young.
He governed the Church with humility and charity for seven years and reposed in 893.
