  Prokopios Dekapolis

  Venerable, Προκόπιος

  St. Prokopios of the Dekapolis was a monk of the eighth century who lived the ascetic life in fasting, vigil, and prayer. When the iconoclast heresy arose under the emperors who warred against the holy images, he stood forth as a confessor, defending the veneration of the icons of Christ and His saints, and suffering persecution for the truth.

• Ephraim of Katounakia

  Venerable, Εφραίμ ο Κατουνακιώτης

  St. Ephraim was born in Ampelochori near Thebes in 1912 and baptised Evangelos. In 1933 he went to the desert of Katounakia on Mount Athos, where he was tonsured and ordained priest, and became a close disciple of St. Joseph the Hesychast, who taught him the way of the prayer of the heart.

• Elias of Trebizond

  Martyr, Ηλίας ο εκ Τραπεζούντος

  St. Elias came from Kryoneri near Trebizond in Pontus and was the son of the priest Constantine. Seized by the Turks, he was tortured at the harbour of Trebizond and refused to deny Christ.

• Gelasios the Mime

  Martyr, Γελάσιος ο Μίμος

  Gelasios was an actor in Heliopolis who, mocking the Christian mysteries on stage, was plunged into a tub of water in imitation of baptism. Coming out, he declared that he had seen the glory of God and was now a Christian.

• Thalelaios the Hermit

  Venerable, Θαλλέλαιος

  St. Thalelaios came from Cilicia and lived as a hermit near Gabala in Syria on the site of a former pagan shrine. He built himself a tiny cage-like cell in which he could neither stand nor lie straight, and remained in it for many years in prayer.

• Raphael of Brooklyn

  St. Raphael was born in Syria in 1860 to a devout Damascene family and studied at the theological school of Halki. He served the Antiochian Church in Russia before being sent to America in 1895 to care for the scattered Arab Orthodox faithful.

  St. Stephen was a courtier under the Emperor Maurice who used his wealth to found a hospice for the elderly in Constantinople, devoting himself to the care of strangers and the poor.
