Venerable Ephraim of Katounakia, Athonite elder and disciple of St. Joseph the Hesychast.
St. Ephraim was born in Ampelochori near Thebes in 1912 and baptised Evangelos. In 1933 he went to the desert of Katounakia on Mount Athos, where he was tonsured and ordained priest, and became a close disciple of St. Joseph the Hesychast, who taught him the way of the prayer of the heart.
Renowned for his obedience and for the grace of his liturgical celebration, he guided many pilgrims and reposed in 1998; he was glorified by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 2020.

On the New Calendar, Ephraim of Katounakia is commemorated on February 27. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 12 (a day earlier in leap years) of the civil calendar.
