  Holy Woman, Πελαγία

  The Holy Martyr Pelagia was a young Christian woman of the early Church who suffered during the persecutions of the pagan emperors. Refusing to deny Christ or to be turned from her purity, she gave her life rather than betray her Lord, and the synaxaria honor her steadfast confession.

• Nikephoros of Mount Athos

  Venerable, Νικηφόρος ο Αθωνίτης

  Nikephoros was of Italian birth and, having embraced Orthodoxy, became a monk on Mount Athos in the thirteenth century. He lived in stillness in the wilder parts of the Mountain and wrote a treatise on watchfulness and the prayer of the heart.

  Athanasios was a monk who was raised to the see of Corinth, traditionally placed in the tenth century. He governed the church of Corinth with gentleness and kept his monastic discipline as a bishop.

• Florian the Martyr

  Martyr, Φλωριανός

  Florian was an officer of the Roman army in the province of Noricum. During the persecution of Diocletian he openly declared himself a Christian when the governor sought out believers, and after scourging he was thrown into the river Enns with a stone tied to his neck, around the year 304.
