  St. John Chrysostom, the golden-mouthed preacher, was Archbishop of Constantinople at the turn of the fifth century. The greatest homilist of the Church, he expounded the Scriptures to his flock, defended the poor, and rebuked the powerful without fear, for which he was twice driven into exile; he died on the road in exile, with the words Glory to God for all things on his lips.

• Damaskenos the New Martyr

  Martyr, Δαμασκηνός ο Νέος Οσιομάρτυς

  Saint Damaskenos was born in Galata of Constantinople and became a monk. Tradition relates that after a lapse he repented and, seeking to make amends, publicly confessed Christ before the Ottoman authorities.
