  Philip the Apostle

  Apostle, Φίλιππος ο Απόστολος

  The holy apostle Philip, one of the Twelve, was from Bethsaida of Galilee, the city of Peter and Andrew. Called by the Lord Himself, he brought Nathanael to Christ with the words Come and see, and in the Gospel of John he asks the Lord to show the disciples the Father. After Pentecost he preached the Gospel in Asia Minor and, according to tradition, ended his life as a martyr at Hierapolis.

• Gregory Palamas

  Hierarch, Γρηγόριος ο Παλαμάς

  Saint Gregory Palamas was born in Constantinople in 1296 and became a monk on Mount Athos. In the fourteenth century he defended the hesychast monks against the attacks of Barlaam of Calabria, teaching that the faithful may truly share in the uncreated energies of God.

• Constantine of Hydra

  Martyr, Κωνσταντίνος ο Υδραίος

  Saint Constantine was born on the island of Hydra and as a young man in Rhodes was drawn into the service of the Ottoman governor and renounced his faith. Overcome by remorse, he returned to the Church, spent time on Mount Athos in repentance, and went back to Rhodes to confess Christ openly.

• Stachys of Hierapolis

  Hierarch, Στάχυς Ιεραπόλεως

  According to the synaxarion of Saint Nikodemos, after the martyrdom of the Apostle Philip at Hierapolis, his companion the Apostle Bartholomew ordained Stachys as bishop of that city.

• Euphemianos of Cyprus

  Venerable, Ευφημιανός ο Θαυματουργός

  Tradition relates that Saint Euphemianos was among the Greeks who set out on the Second Crusade in the twelfth century and, when it dispersed, settled in Cyprus. He lived as a hermit near the village of Lysi, devoting himself to prayer.
