Constantine of Hydra

Holy New Martyr Constantine of Hydra, martyred at Rhodes in 1800.

Saint Constantine was born on the island of Hydra and as a young man in Rhodes was drawn into the service of the Ottoman governor and renounced his faith. Overcome by remorse, he returned to the Church, spent time on Mount Athos in repentance, and went back to Rhodes to confess Christ openly.

He was imprisoned, tortured and hanged in 1800. His relics are venerated on Hydra.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Constantine of Hydra is commemorated on November 14. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 27 of the civil calendar.
