  Akindynos and companions

  Martyr, Ακίνδυνος

  The holy martyrs Akindynos, Pegasios, Aphthonios, Elpidophoros, and Anempodistos were Christians of Persia who suffered in the fourth century, during a fierce persecution of the Church in that land. Refusing to deny Christ, they endured many torments and were put to death, and their steadfastness drew others to the faith.

  The holy women martyrs Kyriaki, Domnina and Domna are commemorated together in the Church's calendar. The synaxarion records that they were put to death by the sword for confessing Christ.

• Marcian of Cyrrhus

  Venerable, Μαρκιανός ο εν τη Κύρω

  Venerable Marcian lived in the fourth century as a hermit in the desert of Chalcis near Cyrrhus in Syria. Of noble birth, he left the imperial court to live in a small cell, devoting himself to prayer, fasting and the study of Scripture.

  Martyr, Ευδόξιος και Αγάπιος

  The holy martyrs Eudoxios, Agapios, Atticus, Marinus, Oceanus, Eustratius, Carterius, Nicopolitianus, Styrax and Tobias suffered at Sebaste in Armenia. Eudoxios is said to have been a military commander who was denounced for his faith.

• Anthony of Thessaloniki

  Hierarch, Αντώνιος ο Ομολογητής

  Saint Anthony was Archbishop of Thessaloniki in the ninth century. During the second period of iconoclasm he confessed the veneration of the holy icons and was persecuted, exiled and mistreated for his stand.

• Lambros and Theodore, New Martyrs of Agrinio

  Martyr, Λάμπρος και Θεόδωρος οι Νεομάρτυρες

  The new martyrs Lambros, Theodore and a third companion whose name is not recorded were merchants from the Peloponnese who had lived for a time in Ioannina. Returning home in 1786 they stopped at Vrachori, the present Agrinio, where a dispute with Ottoman tax collectors led to their arrest.
