  Kosmas and Damian (Asian)

  Saint, Κοσμάς και Δαμιανός

  Saints Kosmas and Damian of Asia Minor were brothers and physicians, raised in the faith by their pious mother Theodota. They treated the sick without ever accepting payment, asking only that those they healed believe in Christ, and for this the Church calls them Unmercenaries. They reposed in peace after lives given wholly to God and neighbor.

• David of Euboea

  Venerable, Δαβίδ ο εν Ευβοία

  Venerable David the Elder was a monk of the sixteenth century who, after years of ascetic struggle and travels in Greece and beyond, settled in the mountains of northern Euboea and founded the monastery of the Transfiguration, known today as the monastery of Saint David.

• Helen of Sinope

  Holy Woman, Ελένη η Παρθενομάρτυς

  Saint Helen was a young woman of Sinope on the Black Sea coast of Asia Minor. Tradition relates that a local Ottoman official, struck by her beauty, tried to force her to renounce Christ and marry him; she refused steadfastly.

• Kyriaina and Juliana

  Holy Woman, Κυριαίνα και Ιουλιανή

  The holy women Kyriaina and Juliana suffered for Christ in Cilicia during the persecutions of the early fourth century. Tradition relates that they were publicly humiliated and paraded through the city before being burned alive.

• Caesarius, Dasius and companions

  Martyr, Καισάριος και Δάσιος

  The seven holy martyrs Caesarius, Dasius, Sabbas, Sabinianus, Agrippa, Adrian and Thomas suffered for Christ at Damascus. The synaxarion records that they were beheaded after confessing their faith.

• James of Kastoria and his disciples

  Martyr, Ιάκωβος ο Νέος Οσιομάρτυς

  Saint James was born in Kastoria in northern Greece and, after a period as a wealthy merchant, renounced the world and became a monk on Mount Athos. He later lived as an ascetic in Greece with his disciples, the deacon James and the monk Dionysios.

• Theodota, mother of Cosmas and Damian

  Holy Woman, Θεοδότη

  Saint Theodota was the mother of the Holy Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian of Asia. Widowed early, she raised her sons in piety and the fear of God, and tradition credits her upbringing with their later life of healing without payment.
