  Stachys the Apostle

  Apostle, Στάχυς

  St. Stachys was one of the Seventy Apostles, greeted by name by the Apostle Paul in his epistle to the Romans. Tradition relates that he was ordained by the Apostle Andrew as the first Bishop of Byzantium, the city that would one day become Constantinople, where he shepherded the young Christian community and labored in the preaching of the Gospel.

• Epimachos of Egypt

  Martyr, Επίμαχος ο Αιγύπτιος

  Epimachos was an ascetic of Mount Pelusium in Egypt who, hearing of the persecution, went down to Alexandria and openly overthrew the idols and confessed Christ.

• Nicholas the New Martyr of Chios

  Martyr, Νικόλαος ο Χίος

  Nicholas was born on Chios and in a moment of mental distress uttered the Muslim confession of faith. Recovering, he was tormented by remorse and, after preparing himself by prayer and confession, presented himself before the Turkish judge and proclaimed himself a Christian.

• Apelles, Amplias, Urban, Narcissus and Aristobulus

  Apostle, Απελλής, Αμπλίας, Ουρβανός, Νάρκισσος και Αριστόβουλος

  These apostles are greeted by Saint Paul in the Epistle to the Romans. Apelles became Bishop of Heraclea, Amplias of Odyssopolis, Urban of Macedonia, and Narcissus of Athens; Aristobulus, brother of Barnabas, preached in Britain and died in peace.

• Seleukos and Stratonike

  Martyr, Σέλευκος και Στρατονίκη

  Seleukos and Stratonike were a married couple of Cyzicus who confessed Christ together before the pagan authorities. Tradition relates that they endured torture side by side and were put to death, receiving the crown of martyrdom as one.

• Spyridon and Nikodemos the Prosphora-Bakers

  Venerable, Σπυρίδων και Νικόδημος

  Spyridon came to the Kiev Caves as an unlettered man in middle age and was given the obedience of baking the prosphora, which he fulfilled for thirty years while reciting the Psalter by heart. Tradition relates that when the bakery caught fire he carried water in his cloak and put out the flames unharmed.

• John Kochurov

  Hierarch, Ιωάννης Κοτσούρωφ

  John Kochurov served as a missionary priest in Chicago from 1895 to 1907 under Saint Tikhon, building the cathedral of the Holy Trinity there. He returned to Russia and served at Tsarskoye Selo.
