  Ioannikios the Great

  Venerable, Ιωαννίκιος ο Μέγας

  Venerable Ioannikios the Great was born in Bithynia in the eighth century and served for years as a soldier before leaving the world for the monastic life on Mount Olympus in Asia Minor. There he lived in great asceticism and prayer, receiving gifts of prophecy and wonderworking, and he stood with the venerators of the holy icons in the troubled years of iconoclasm.

• Nicander of Myra and Hermaeus

  Hierarch, Νίκανδρος και Ερμαίος

  Saints Nicander and Hermaeus lived in the first century and, according to tradition, were ordained by the Apostle Titus, Nicander as Bishop of Myra in Lycia and Hermaeus as a presbyter. They laboured to convert the pagans of the region.

• Porphyrios the Mime

  Martyr, Πορφύριος ο Μίμος

  Saint Porphyrios was an actor at Ephesus in the fourth century. Tradition relates that while performing a parody of Christian Baptism on stage for the entertainment of the pagans, he was baptized in earnest and confessed Christ openly before the audience.

• John Vatatzes the Merciful

  Saint, Ιωάννης Βατάτζης ο Ελεήμων

  Saint John Vatatzes was Emperor of Nicaea in the thirteenth century, ruling the Byzantine state in exile after the fall of Constantinople to the Crusaders. He was renowned for his justice, his generosity to the poor and his support of the Church and of learning.

• George Karslidis

  Venerable, Γεώργιος Καρσλίδης

  Saint George Karslidis was born in Argyroupolis of Pontus at the beginning of the twentieth century and was ordained in Georgia, where he suffered imprisonment and persecution under the Soviet regime. He came to Greece as a refugee and founded the monastery of the Ascension at Sipsa near Drama.

• Mercurius the Faster of the Kiev Caves

  Venerable, Μερκούριος ο Νηστευτής

  Venerable Mercurius was a monk of the Kiev Caves Lavra who lived in the fourteenth century and is remembered for his strict fasting. His relics rest in the Far Caves of the Lavra.
