Nicander of Myra and Hermaeus

Hieromartyrs Nicander, Bishop of Myra, and Hermaeus the Presbyter, ordained by the Apostle Titus.

Saints Nicander and Hermaeus lived in the first century and, according to tradition, were ordained by the Apostle Titus, Nicander as Bishop of Myra in Lycia and Hermaeus as a presbyter. They laboured to convert the pagans of the region.

Denounced to the governor Libanius, they were subjected to prolonged tortures and finally buried alive, receiving the crown of martyrdom.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Nicander of Myra and Hermaeus is commemorated on November 4. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 17 of the civil calendar.
