Venerable George Karslidis the Confessor, elder of the Ascension monastery at Sipsa, Drama.
Saint George Karslidis was born in Argyroupolis of Pontus at the beginning of the twentieth century and was ordained in Georgia, where he suffered imprisonment and persecution under the Soviet regime. He came to Greece as a refugee and founded the monastery of the Ascension at Sipsa near Drama.
Known for his ascetic life, discernment and spiritual counsel, he reposed in 1959 and was glorified by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 2008.
