St. Porphyrios was an actor who, in the reign of Julian the Apostate, performed a play mocking Christian baptism before the emperor. Tradition relates that when he entered the water speaking the words of baptism he was truly enlightened and confessed himself a Christian before all.
He was tortured and beheaded for his confession. He is commemorated on September 15.

Saint Porphyrios was an actor at Ephesus in the fourth century. Tradition relates that while performing a parody of Christian Baptism on stage for the entertainment of the pagans, he was baptized in earnest and confessed Christ openly before the audience.
He was seized and beheaded for his confession.
