St. Bessarion, Archbishop of Larissa, founder of the Dousikou Monastery.
St. Bessarion was born near Trikala in Thessaly in the fifteenth century and became Metropolitan of Larissa, a shepherd known for his charity, for ransoming captives, and for building bridges and roads for the poor of his region. He founded the monastery of Dousikou near Pyli, which still bears his name.
He reposed in 1540 and is commemorated on September 15, a name day for Vissarion.
