• Onesiphoros the Apostle

  Apostle, Ονησιφόρος

  The holy apostle Onesiphoros, one of the Seventy, is remembered with honor by the Apostle Paul in his second epistle to Timothy. When Paul was imprisoned in Rome, Onesiphoros sought him out diligently and refreshed him, unashamed of the Apostle's chains, and Paul prayed that the Lord grant mercy to his whole household.

  Nektarios of Aegina

  Hierarch, Νεκτάριος

  St. Nektarios of Aegina, Metropolitan of Pentapolis, is one of the most beloved saints of modern Greece. Born in Selybria of Thrace in 1846, he served the Church with great humility and was slandered and unjustly removed from his see in Egypt, bearing the injustice without bitterness. He later taught in Athens and founded the Holy Trinity Convent on the island of Aegina, where he reposed in 1920.

• Matrona of Constantinople

  Holy Woman, Ματρώνα η Οσία

  Venerable Matrona was born at Perge in Pamphylia in the fifth century and was married in Constantinople. Longing for the monastic life, she left her husband and, disguised as a eunuch named Babylas, entered a men's monastery, where her identity was eventually discovered.

• Theoktiste of Lesbos

  Holy Woman, Θεοκτίστη η Λεσβία

  Saint Theoktiste was a young nun of Lesbos who was carried off by Arab raiders in the ninth century. Landed on the deserted island of Paros, she escaped and hid in the ruined church of the Panagia Ekatontapyliani, where she lived alone for some thirty-five years on wild plants and prayer.

• Eustolia and Sopatra

  Holy Woman, Ευστολία και Σωπάτρα

  Saint Eustolia was a Roman noblewoman who came to Constantinople to lead a life of asceticism. Sopatra, daughter of the Emperor Maurice, became her disciple, and together they founded a convent in the city.

• Symeon Metaphrastes

  Venerable, Συμεών ο Μεταφραστής

  Saint Symeon Metaphrastes was a high official at the Byzantine court in the tenth century and a man of great learning. He is remembered above all for compiling and rewriting the lives of the saints in the great collection known as the Menologion.

• John Kolovos

  Venerable, Ιωάννης ο Κολοβός

  Saint John Kolovos, called the Short or the Dwarf, was one of the great Desert Fathers of Scetis in Egypt in the fourth and fifth centuries. He was a disciple of Abba Ammoes and later the spiritual father of many monks.

• Euthymios and Neophytos of Docheiariou

  Venerable, Ευθύμιος και Νεόφυτος οι Δοχειαρίτες

  Venerable Euthymios was a companion of Saint Athanasios of Athos and served as steward, or docheiaris, of the Great Lavra before founding his own monastery, which took its name from his office. His nephew Neophytos succeeded him and completed the foundation on its present site.
