  Artemon of Seleucia

  Martyr, Αρτέμιος

  The holy Great Martyr Artemios was a distinguished military commander of the fourth century who served under St. Constantine the Great and his successors. When the Emperor Julian the Apostate sought to restore paganism, Artemios rebuked him openly for his persecution of the Christians; for this he was stripped of his rank, cruelly tortured, and beheaded at Antioch in the year 362.

• Matrona of Chios

  Holy Woman, Ματρώνα η Χιοπολίτις

  Matrona was born Mary in the village of Volissos on Chios to wealthy parents. Refusing marriage, she fled to a small convent near the town of Chios, where she was tonsured and later became abbess, enlarging the community by her own labors.

• Gerasimos of Cephalonia (Translation of Relics)

  Venerable, Γεράσιμος ο εν Κεφαλληνία

  Gerasimos was born at Trikala in Corinthia in 1506 of the noble Notaras family. He became a monk on Mount Athos, lived in the Holy Land and on Zakynthos, and finally settled on Cephalonia, where he founded the convent of New Jerusalem at Omala.

• Manatho the Virgin

  Holy Woman, Μαναθώ

  Manatho was a virgin of Scythopolis in Palestine who confessed Christ before the governor Firmilian at Caesarea. After scourging she was burned to death together with the martyrs Zebinas, Germanos, Nikephoros and Antoninos around 308.

• Basil of Trebizond

  Hierarch, Βασίλειος Τραπεζούντος

  Basil is commemorated in the Synaxarion as a Bishop of Trebizond who shepherded his flock in holiness and reposed in peace. The details of his life are not preserved.
