  Thekla Equal-to-the-Apostles

  Holy Woman, Θέκλα

  St. Thekla of Iconium was converted as a young woman by the preaching of the Apostle Paul. Renouncing her betrothal to follow Christ, she was condemned to fire and to wild beasts, but tradition relates that God preserved her unharmed; she then labored in preaching and prayer, ending her long life in asceticism near Seleucia.

• Silouan the Athonite

  Venerable, Σιλουανός ο Αθωνίτης

  St. Silouan was born a Russian peasant in 1866 and came to the monastery of St. Panteleimon on Mount Athos as a young man, where he lived for nearly fifty years in obedience and prayer. He was granted a vision of the living Christ and taught, from long struggle with despair, the word he received: keep thy mind in hell and despair not.

• Kopris of Palestine

  Venerable, Κόπρις

  St. Kopris was found as a newborn on a dung-heap, from which he took his name, during a raid on the monastery of St. Theodosios in Palestine, and was raised by the monks. He lived there in humility his whole life and reposed in peace in old age.

• Persis the Martyr

  Holy Woman, Πέρση

  St. Persis was a Christian woman who confessed Christ in the time of the persecutions and, tradition relates, was cast into the sea for the faith.

• Stephen the First-Crowned of Serbia

  Saint, Στέφανος ο Πρωτοστέφανος

  St. Stephen was the son of St. Symeon the Myrrh-streaming and brother of St. Sava, and the first crowned king of Serbia. He ruled with justice, built churches and monasteries including Zica, and before his death received the monastic tonsure with the name Simon.
