  The Holy Martyr Aquilina was a young girl of Byblos in Phoenicia who suffered under the persecution of Diocletian at the end of the third century. Raised in the faith from infancy, she spoke of Christ to her companions with such boldness that she was denounced to the authorities, and though only a child she endured torments and death rather than deny the Lord.

  September 27, Holy Woman, Ακυλίνα

  St. Akylina was born at Zagliveri near Thessaloniki in the eighteenth century. Tradition relates that her father, having become a Muslim, was pressed to bring his daughter to Islam; raised in the faith by her mother, she refused before the Turkish judge and was beaten to death in 1764, at the age of eighteen.
