  St. Isidore of Pelusium was an ascetic of Egypt in the fifth century, who lived in monastic retirement near the city of Pelusium at the mouth of the Nile. A man of wide learning and deep devotion to the Holy Scriptures, he revered the teaching of St. John Chrysostom and followed his example of bold and clear instruction.

  The Holy Martyr Isidore suffered on the island of Chios in the middle of the third century, during the persecution of Decius. A soldier serving in the imperial fleet, he was denounced as a Christian, and when he refused to sacrifice to the idols he was tortured and beheaded, remaining steadfast in his confession to the end.
