  Isidore of Pelusium

  Venerable, Ισίδωρος

  St. Isidore of Pelusium was an ascetic of Egypt in the fifth century, who lived in monastic retirement near the city of Pelusium at the mouth of the Nile. A man of wide learning and deep devotion to the Holy Scriptures, he revered the teaching of St. John Chrysostom and followed his example of bold and clear instruction.

• Abramios of Arbela

  Hierarch, Αβράμιος Αρβήλ

  St. Abramios was Bishop of Arbela in Persia during the persecution of Christians under King Shapur II. Commanded to renounce Christ and worship the sun, he refused, declaring that he would never abandon the true God.

• Nicholas the Studite

  Venerable, Νικόλαος ο Στουδίτης

  St. Nicholas was born in Crete and as a boy was sent to Constantinople, where he entered the Monastery of Studion under St. Theodore the Studite. He shared in the sufferings of his abbot during the iconoclast persecution, enduring imprisonment and exile.

• Joseph of Aleppo

  Martyr, Ιωσήφ ο Χαλεπλής

  St. Joseph came from Aleppo in Syria. Because of his piety he was falsely accused by Muslims of having promised to convert to Islam. Before the judge he remained unshaken in his faith and boldly confessed Christ.

• George of Vladimir

  Saint, Γεώργιος Βλαδιμίρ

  St. George, son of Great Prince Vsevolod, ruled Vladimir in the thirteenth century and was known for his piety, his building of churches and his care for the poor. He founded the city of Nizhny Novgorod.

• Cyril of Novoezersk

  Venerable, Κύριλλος ο Θαυματουργός

  St. Cyril was born near Novgorod and in his youth secretly left home to become a monk under St. Cornelius of Komel. After years of ascetic struggle he settled on an island in the Red Lake, where he founded a monastery in honour of the Resurrection.
