New Martyr Joseph of Aleppo, slandered and beheaded for his faith.
St. Joseph came from Aleppo in Syria. Because of his piety he was falsely accused by Muslims of having promised to convert to Islam. Before the judge he remained unshaken in his faith and boldly confessed Christ.
When flattery and threats failed to move him, he was beheaded, receiving the crown of martyrdom in the seventeenth century.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Joseph of Aleppo is commemorated on February 4. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 17 of the civil calendar.
