Holy Martyr Isidore of Chios.
The Holy Martyr Isidore suffered on the island of Chios in the middle of the third century, during the persecution of Decius. A soldier serving in the imperial fleet, he was denounced as a Christian, and when he refused to sacrifice to the idols he was tortured and beheaded, remaining steadfast in his confession to the end.
He has been venerated on Chios from ancient times as the island's own martyr, and churches in his honor spread from there throughout the Christian world. He is commemorated on May 14.
