John the Bulgarian

New Martyr John the Bulgarian, a goldsmith beheaded in Constantinople.

John was a young goldsmith from Bulgaria who worked in Constantinople. Falsely accused and pressured to accept Islam, he confessed Christ openly before the court.

He was beheaded in 1802.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, John the Bulgarian is commemorated on May 14. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 27 of the civil calendar.
