Therapon of Cyprus

Hieromartyr Therapon, Bishop in Cyprus, whose relics were brought to Constantinople.

Therapon was a bishop in Cyprus who suffered martyrdom for Christ; the details of his life are not preserved. His relics remained on the island until the ninth century, when, tradition relates, the saint appeared and directed that they be moved to Constantinople before an Arab raid.

Many healings were attributed to his relics in the capital.

On the New Calendar, Therapon of Cyprus is commemorated on May 14. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 27 of the civil calendar.
