Synaxis of the three Athonite New Martyrs Euthymios, Ignatios and Akakios, who suffered in Constantinople in the early nineteenth century.
Euthymios of the Peloponnese, Ignatios of Stara Zagora and Akakios of Neochori near Thessaloniki were three young men who had denied Christ under pressure and later repented. Each prepared for confession under the guidance of the elders of the Skete of the Forerunner (Iviron) on Mount Athos.
One after another they went to Constantinople and confessed their faith openly, and were beheaded there between 1814 and 1816. Their relics were brought back to the Holy Mountain, where the three are honored together on May 1.

On the New Calendar, Akakios, Euthymios and Ignatios the New Martyrs of Athos is commemorated on May 1. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 14 of the civil calendar.
