Panaretos of Paphos

Saint Panaretos, Archbishop of Paphos in Cyprus, an ascetic bishop of the eighteenth century.

Panaretos served as Archbishop of Paphos in Cyprus during the eighteenth century, when the island lay under Ottoman rule. Though a bishop, he kept the strict fasting and prayer of a monk, slept on the ground, and gave what he had to the poor.

Tradition relates that he was granted the gift of insight and worked healings during his lifetime. He reposed in peace in 1791 and is venerated especially in Paphos.
