Alexander of Adrianople

Holy Hieromartyr Alexander, Bishop of Adrianople, and the martyrs Herakleios, Anna, Elizabeth, Theodote and Glykeria with him.

Alexander was a bishop in the region of Adrianople who converted many pagans by his preaching. Brought before the governor, he refused to sacrifice to idols and was tortured.

The soldier Herakleios and the women Anna, Elizabeth, Theodote and Glykeria, moved by his endurance, confessed Christ and were beheaded with him around the third century.

On the New Calendar, Alexander of Adrianople is commemorated on October 22. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 4 of the civil calendar.
