Alexis of Moscow

St. Alexis, Metropolitan of Moscow, wonderworker of All Russia.

St. Alexis was born to a noble family and became a monk in Moscow in his youth. Consecrated Metropolitan of Kiev and All Russia in the fourteenth century, he guided the Russian state during the minority of Prince Dimitri Donskoy and was a close friend of St. Sergius of Radonezh.

Tradition relates that he healed the Tatar khan's wife of blindness. He reposed in 1378 and his relics rest in Moscow.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Alexis of Moscow is commemorated on February 12. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 25 of the civil calendar.
