Antonios of Constantinople

St. Antonios Kauleas, Patriarch of Constantinople.

St. Antonios was born near Constantinople to pious parents and became a monk at the age of twelve. Known for his asceticism and love for the poor, he was made abbot and later Patriarch of Constantinople in the late ninth century.

He worked to heal the divisions in the Church that followed the deposition of St. Photios and reposed in peace.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Antonios of Constantinople is commemorated on February 12. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 25 of the civil calendar.
