Mary called Marinos

Venerable Mary, who lived as the monk Marinos in a monastery of Bithynia.

St. Mary followed her widowed father Eugene into a monastery in Bithynia disguised as a young man, taking the name Marinos. Falsely accused of fathering a child, she accepted the blame in silence and was expelled from the monastery, raising the child at its gate in great poverty.

Only after her death was her innocence and her true identity discovered, and the monks glorified God for her humility.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Mary called Marinos is commemorated on February 12. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 25 of the civil calendar.
