  Meletios of Antioch

  Hierarch, Μελέτιος

  St. Meletios was Archbishop of Antioch in the fourth century, a gentle and steadfast champion of the Nicene faith. For his defense of the divinity of Christ against the Arians he was driven from his see into exile more than once, yet he never ceased to shepherd his flock in patience and peace.

• Mary called Marinos

  Holy Woman, Μαρία η μετονομασθείσα Μαρίνος

  St. Mary followed her widowed father Eugene into a monastery in Bithynia disguised as a young man, taking the name Marinos. Falsely accused of fathering a child, she accepted the blame in silence and was expelled from the monastery, raising the child at its gate in great poverty.

• Christos the Gardener

  Martyr, Χρήστος ο Κηπουρός

  St. Christos came from Albania and worked as a gardener in Constantinople. After a quarrel with a Turk over the price of apples, he was falsely accused of having promised to become a Muslim and was thrown into prison.

• Antonios of Constantinople

  Hierarch, Αντώνιος Κωνσταντινουπόλεως

  St. Antonios was born near Constantinople to pious parents and became a monk at the age of twelve. Known for his asceticism and love for the poor, he was made abbot and later Patriarch of Constantinople in the late ninth century.

• Alexis of Moscow

  Hierarch, Αλέξιος Μόσχας

  St. Alexis was born to a noble family and became a monk in Moscow in his youth. Consecrated Metropolitan of Kiev and All Russia in the fourteenth century, he guided the Russian state during the minority of Prince Dimitri Donskoy and was a close friend of St. Sergius of Radonezh.

• Meletios of Ypseni

  Venerable, Μελέτιος ο εν Υψενή

  St. Meletios was born in the village of Lardos on Rhodes in the late eighteenth century and baptised Emmanuel. He became a monk and, tradition relates, found an icon of the Theotokos at Ypseni, where he built a monastery that became a spiritual centre of the island.
