  Martinian

  Venerable, Μαρτινιανός

  St. Martinian was a hermit of the region of Caesarea in Palestine, who took up the ascetic life as a young man and dwelt for many years in the desert in prayer and fasting. Tradition tells of the fierce struggles he endured against temptation, and of the lengths to which he went to preserve his purity, fleeing at last to a bare rock in the sea and then wandering from place to place with no home but Christ.

• Aquila and Priscilla

  Apostle, Ακύλας και Πρίσκιλλα

  Aquila, a Jew of Pontus, and his wife Priscilla were tentmakers living in Corinth when St. Paul came to lodge and work with them. They accompanied him to Ephesus, instructed Apollos in the faith, and opened their home as a church.

• Eulogios of Alexandria

  Hierarch, Ευλόγιος Αλεξανδρείας

  St. Eulogios was abbot of a monastery in Antioch before being elected Patriarch of Alexandria in the late sixth century. A friend and correspondent of St. Gregory the Great of Rome, he combated the Monophysite and other heresies with his writings.

• Symeon the Myrrh-streaming

  Venerable, Συμεών ο Μυροβλύτης

  St. Symeon was Stefan Nemanja, the Grand Prince who united the Serbian lands in the twelfth century. Late in life he abdicated in favour of his son and joined his youngest son St. Sava on Mount Athos, where together they founded the Monastery of Chilandar.

• Seraphima of Sezenovo

  Holy Woman, Σεραφείμα

  St. Seraphima, born Euphemia Morgacheva in the Ryazan region in the nineteenth century, devoted herself from youth to prayer and fasting. She became a disciple of the recluse John of Sezenovo and later guided the women's community that grew up there.

• George of Mogilev

  Hierarch, Γεώργιος Λευκορωσίας

  St. George was born in Nezhin in the eighteenth century, studied at the Kiev academy and became a monk of the Kiev Caves Lavra. As Archbishop of Mogilev he defended the Orthodox faithful of Belarus against Uniate pressure and worked for the education of the clergy.
