George of Mogilev

St. George Konissky, Archbishop of Mogilev in Belarus.

St. George was born in Nezhin in the eighteenth century, studied at the Kiev academy and became a monk of the Kiev Caves Lavra. As Archbishop of Mogilev he defended the Orthodox faithful of Belarus against Uniate pressure and worked for the education of the clergy.

He reposed in 1795, honoured as a confessor of Orthodoxy in the western lands.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, George of Mogilev is commemorated on February 13. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 26 of the civil calendar.
