Anastasios of Bulgaria

Holy New Martyr Anastasios of Bulgaria, who suffered at Thessaloniki.

Saint Anastasios was a young Bulgarian who worked in Thessaloniki. Tradition relates that he was pressured to accept Islam, repented of a moment of weakness and confessed Christ before the Ottoman judge, for which he was put to death in the eighteenth century.

He is honoured among the New Martyrs.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Anastasios of Bulgaria is commemorated on August 8. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 21 of the civil calendar.
