  Emilian the Confessor

  Hierarch, Αιμιλιανός

  St. Emilian was bishop of Cyzicus in the ninth century, during the renewed persecution of the holy icons. Summoned to reject the veneration of the icons of Christ and the saints, he refused, defending the Orthodox faith with firmness before the iconoclast emperor.

  Myron of Crete (Bishop)

  Hierarch, Μύρων Κρήτης

  Saint Myron was a farmer of Crete known for his generosity, who was later ordained and became bishop of Gortyna. Tradition relates that he once caught thieves in his threshing floor and helped them carry away the grain, moving them to repentance.

• Triantaphyllos of Zagora

  Martyr, Τριαντάφυλλος

  Saint Triantaphyllos was a young sailor from Zagora on Mount Pelion. Accused before the Ottoman authorities in Constantinople, he refused to renounce Christ despite threats and flattery and was beheaded in the seventeenth century.

  The synaxaria record that Saints Eleutherios and Leonides, together with a number of children, were cast into a fire for confessing Christ.

• Kallinikos of Edessa

  Hierarch, Καλλίνικος Εδέσσης

  Saint Kallinikos Poulos was Metropolitan of Edessa in northern Greece in the twentieth century, remembered for his simplicity of life, pastoral zeal and love for the poor. He reposed in 1984.

• Anastasios of Bulgaria

  Martyr, Αναστάσιος ο εκ Βουλγαρίας

  Saint Anastasios was a young Bulgarian who worked in Thessaloniki. Tradition relates that he was pressured to accept Islam, repented of a moment of weakness and confessed Christ before the Ottoman judge, for which he was put to death in the eighteenth century.
