Anoub the Sign-bearer

Venerable Anoub the Sign-bearer of Egypt, a confessor and ascetic of Scetis.

Abba Anoub was an Egyptian ascetic of the fourth century who, tradition relates, confessed Christ during the persecutions and afterwards lived in the desert with his brother Abba Poemen and others. His humility is recorded in the Sayings of the Desert Fathers, and he is called Sign-bearer because of the miracles worked through him.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Anoub the Sign-bearer is commemorated on June 6. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 19 of the civil calendar.
