Gelasius the Martyr

Holy Martyr Gelasius, who distributed his goods to the poor and was beheaded for Christ.

Saint Gelasius, tradition relates, gave away his property to the poor and openly encouraged the Christians who were being persecuted, kissing their wounds. He was arrested for this and beheaded, receiving the crown of martyrdom.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Gelasius the Martyr is commemorated on June 6. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 19 of the civil calendar.
