  Hilarion the New

  Venerable, Ιλαρίων

  St. Hilarion the New was abbot of the Dalmaton monastery in Constantinople in the ninth century. A monk of strict life and deep humility, he guided his brotherhood in the ways of prayer and obedience, and when the iconoclast emperors renewed their war on the holy icons he refused to submit, enduring imprisonment and exile for the sake of the Orthodox faith.

• Bessarion the Wonderworker

  Venerable, Βησσαρίων

  Saint Bessarion was an Egyptian ascetic of the fourth and fifth centuries, a disciple of Saint Anthony and Saint Macarius. He lived as a wanderer without shelter, and the desert fathers preserved accounts of his great endurance and of the miracles God worked through him, including turning salt water sweet.

• Attalus the Wonderworker

  Venerable, Άτταλος

  Saint Attalus lived the ascetic life in the fourth century and is remembered in the synaxaria as a wonderworker who reposed in peace. Little more of his life has been recorded.

  Holy Woman, Μάρθα, Μαρία, Κυρία, Βαλερία και Μαρκία

  These five virgins of Caesarea in Palestine confessed Christ before the governor during the persecutions and were put to death by the sword. The synaxaria honour them together as a company of virgin martyrs.

• Anoub the Sign-bearer

  Venerable, Ανούβ ο Σημειοφόρος

  Abba Anoub was an Egyptian ascetic of the fourth century who, tradition relates, confessed Christ during the persecutions and afterwards lived in the desert with his brother Abba Poemen and others. His humility is recorded in the Sayings of the Desert Fathers, and he is called Sign-bearer because of the miracles worked through him.

• Gelasius the Martyr

  Martyr, Γελάσιος

  Saint Gelasius, tradition relates, gave away his property to the poor and openly encouraged the Christians who were being persecuted, kissing their wounds. He was arrested for this and beheaded, receiving the crown of martyrdom.

• Andronicus of Perm

  Hierarch, Ανδρόνικος ο Ιερομάρτυς

  Saint Andronicus was archbishop of Perm in Russia and a courageous opponent of the persecution of the Church after the revolution. He was arrested and murdered in 1918 and is honoured among the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.
