  Theodotus of Ancyra

  Martyr, Θεόδοτος

  The Holy Martyr Theodotus of Ancyra suffered under the persecution of Diocletian at the beginning of the fourth century. An innkeeper by trade, he used his house and his means to shelter persecuted Christians, to care for prisoners, and to give burial to the bodies of the martyrs when it was forbidden. For this holy boldness he was himself seized, tortured, and beheaded.

• Potamiaena of Alexandria and Basilides

  Holy Woman, Ποταμιαίνη

  Saint Potamiaena was a Christian slave of Alexandria of great beauty and purity. Refusing her master's advances and denounced as a Christian, she was tortured and, tradition relates, slowly lowered into boiling pitch in the early third century.

• Panagis Basias of Kefalonia

  Venerable, Παναγής Μπασιάς

  Saint Panagis Basias was born in Lixouri on Kefalonia in 1801, received a good education and became a priest and teacher. He gave himself to the poor and to prayer, and in his later years took upon himself the foolishness for Christ, through which he was granted gifts of discernment and healing.

  Holy Woman, Ζηναΐς

  Saint Zenais lived in Caesarea in Palestine and is remembered in the synaxaria as a wonderworker who healed the sick through her prayers. Tradition relates that she gave her life for Christ during the persecutions of the third century.

• Anastasios Gordios

  Venerable, Αναστάσιος ο Γόρδιος

  Saint Anastasios Gordios was born in the village of Vraniana in the Agrapha mountains in 1654 and studied under Eugenios Giannoulis. He became a priest-monk and spent his life teaching, writing and guiding the people of the mountains during the Ottoman period.

• Aesia and Susanna, Martyrs

  Holy Woman, Αισία και Σωσάννα

  Saints Aesia and Susanna were virgins of Caesarea in Palestine who, tradition relates, were disciples of the hieromartyr Pamphilus. They confessed Christ during the persecution and were put to death, and the synaxaria honour them together on this day.

• Lykarion the Martyr

  Martyr, Λυκαρίων

  Saint Lykarion was a young Christian of Egypt who, tradition relates, was arrested for his faith, endured torture and was finally beheaded, receiving the crown of martyrdom.
